Board Rules & Regulations

Of all the requirements that were mentioned in this module, what do you think is the most important to emphasize? In other words, what do you wish someone had made very clear to you regarding Board rules and regulations?

The most interesting detail described in module 1 is the recourse for students if their college closes. I didn't know there was a fund set up to assist students so affected - and I wonder more about the success of students who accept a teach out.

I really understand the need for the various rules due to the past behavior of many schools which gave the industry a black eye. Sadly however, those of us (which I hope is most of us) operating schools today still are paying for the sins of the past. There was really zero that was not made clear to me regarding rules or regulations. If there had been at the time of our initial application I would certainly have asked!

Kristi,

Sometimes a school runs out of room at its current location and is need of additional classrooms.

One other thing that I thought was very interesting was when a school closes for whatever reason- yes they get student recovery tuition - but a teach-out from another school is offered. I didn't know that.

I think the advertising rule is really important. It becomes confusing to a potentially new student. With the web being the "place" of all info you become dependant and believe what they (students) are reading. Most people car shop (so to speak) others don't -- that is where the advertising rule is really important in my opinion.

I believe there are a lot of questions about satellite classes/campuses and the responsibilities involved in using these type of locations. The module mentions that students must be given access to courses at a main campus or a satellite campus, so I am wondering how satellites might be used to assist both schools and the students they serve.

I think I understood the rules prior to opening a school. I did a lot of reading before I made the decision to open a school.
I was not aware that there was a distance requirement of a satellite school.

I would like to know more about satellite classrooms and learning centers. Why doesn't a school just use the main campus like it is intended to? What would be the main purpose to having a satellite location and not just another extension of the institution.

I would like to know more about the "learning centers" and the reasons why the Board would allow programs to continue at a learning center not just specific courses like intended.

Having been through a fast forced move in the past 2 years, I would have benefited from more emphasis on the change of address procedures. We were not aware of the steps and in hindsight if we had been better prepared it would have been less stressful.

All of the requirements that were mentioned in this module are new to me. I was not aware of the Student Tuition Recovery Funds. This is a question that students should be asking their potential school if they have this.

I was aware that schools needed to submit a change of address, but I wasn't aware that the paperwork should be submitted before the move was complete. In hindsight, that makes sense, but I never really thought about it. I also wasn't aware that the paperwork regarding a change of address, would need to be submitted even if it were not complete "Schools must submit the change of location form to the Board prior to the move, even if the supporting documentation is not complete".
