It is extremely important for new school owners to be fully versed in all the Ohio policies regarding advertising in order to ensure that enrolling students make a fully-informed decision about the school as well as the program they chose.
It is important to understand that schools can use booths, tables or offices and should clearly identify the name of the school and the programs offered. Providing the basic information will help clarify information for perspective students.This is important because there are so many schools available and a student could get confused. A student would be able to gather information and take it home to review before make a decision.
The most important policy is being completely truthful about a program and not giving any misleading information. This is critical in the enrollment process so there is no misinterpretations for the student who is an enrolling in a specific program.
All are important. I would highlight the requirement that the school owner/director is responsible for the actions, statements and conduct of its agents. Ohio and sound business practice require the owner/director ensure each agent and marketing employee is well versed in Ohio's advertising and recruiting policies.
I feel that all the policies regarding advertising and recruiting are important. However, I think that new schools owners should be cautioned about a couple of the rules regarding their advertisements meeting minimum standard:
- "Must be completely truthful and be prepared and presented in such a way as to avoid any false, misleading, or exaggerated impressions with respect to the school, its personnel, its courses and services, or the occupational opportunities for its graduates";
- and also, "School may not, through its advertising, or through its agents, guarantee or imply a guarantee of employment before enrollment, during enrollment, or after graduation, or guarantee or imply a guarantee of wages or earnings greater than the prevailing wage".
