Though all four elements are important I think you're right on about the attitude piece. Our attitude can not only impact our performance but that of the people around us. What do you do to check your attitude before your phone calls and meetings?

I think attitude. If you don't believe in what your saying they certainly aren't going to either. While all elements are important just being off on one can affect (any of them) how the person perceives what you are saying.

So true Lillian. In which element do you think you excel and which do you need to work on?

I believe all for are important, there is not one element that can be dismissed or missing from an Admission professional.

You hit the nail on the head Kristin. You can have all the knowledge in the world and if you approach with a poor attitude or rough people skills it can be a deal breaker. Thank you for your post.

I believe that the people skills and attitude go hand in hand. People won't care what you are telling them or if you have all of the knowledge in the world if you don't make them feel comfortable and welcome. Once you have that established it is all about the product knowledge to build credibility and then it is time for the sale.

That's great! When you have strong people skills you can build on that to build muscle with the other elements. Which do you think you need to work on the most?

All four are important. The one I enjoy the most is people skills. I love getting to know people and helping them on their way.

I would probably try to take a sales skills workshop to help me highlight what is that I need to improve on. As well as identify the weakness of my sales skills.

Thank you for your post Andriana. What specifically can you do to improve your sales skills?

I think I can use more improvement on my sales skills.

Great observation. Which of these elements do you think you could personally improve upon?

I agree with you totally. You 1st must have excellent knowledge of product to be able to sell it.

I think the most important elements are Product Knowledge, people skills, and attitude. You must have knowledge in the product you are trying to sell and an order to sell you must have excellent people skills and have a positive attitude about the product to be able to sell it and succeed.

Marcus, thanks for sharing here. Yes, people skills and attitude allow for you to build rapport with others which can help in the product knowledge portion of your presentation.

Jamie, thanks for sharing your experience here. What are some of the people skills you use when on the phone with your students?

Hannah, interesting point. Product knowledge is a critical piece in the skill set. I wonder, which of these four elements is it easiest to teach?

Dr. Jean Norris

Ah! What a great point. Your attitude is going to spread not only in your skills, but it can also spread to others too. Having a positive attitude can be contagious.

Well said Alex. I think a positive or negative attitude make everything else flow. A positive attitude makes things flow more smoothly and a negative attitude more roughly. Attitude carries over into the other areas and you said it perfectly that "it will be extremely difficult to keep a student's interest in the school, no matter how good your product knowledge, sales skills, or people skills" are if your attitude is poor.

I agree with you Marcus and think that attitude has can have an effect on the other areas. If you have a great attitude, your people skills shine; when your people skills shine, you can build trust with the student.
