For me in the admissions role, I always try to talk about the student in the role of the profession they are looking to go to college for. How will it change their life, what will their life be like if they don't do it? Simple things like that, as well as letting them know that I am there for them throughout the admissions process is important.
Sharon, thanks for sharing this. It sounds like you prefer to tailor the experience to each individual student. That is great. It will certainly help build a meaningful relationship with others.

I believe that one of the ways of the ways of building meaningful relationships in the admissions process:
I like to find out what brought the student to us and why they are interested in our course. This helps me when I am showing them our program. I am able to focus on how we will be able to help them with achieving there goals. Listening to everything they have to say is key to being able to show them how you can help.
Akiko,
This is a great place to start when working to develop a relationship with your students. Especially because it helps them to focus on something positive. How do you find your students typically respond to this approach?

One thing I do is to lead them talk about their dream so that I can help them to achieve the dream.
Amber,
Excellent question. One thing that you can do is match the student in their model of the world. Find out what's important to them and get to know their story. The more you know about them, the better you can serve them. What are some of the ways that you build meaningful relationships with your students now?
