Personal Hygiene

This is an issue for me. I sometimes feel unsure of the way I may come across when bringing it up to a potential student how important it is that they keep up with hygiene

When working with current and prospective students, I believe that you enroll with the end in mind. By setting expectations early in the process your student is prepared as they move thru the process. My students usually have a solid bond with me so I am able to clearly communicate with them.

It always amazes me to sense the smells that I get when a student comes to an appointment. It is not always a bad smell but definitely a way my brain identifies then and can remember them.

Clearly communicating the requirements and expectations of being a student gives the student the tools to succeed. I agree that you don't want to place judgement, its about setting expectations and based on the various posts it looks like providing an example is a great way to do so. Thank you for your post.

As a potential student it does become difficult to emphasize the importance of keeping a good image at all times. I would approach the situation by giving them a visual look (either a picture or live example)of how a person is suppossed to look when in the institution and emphasize how important it is to maintain this look at all times. Remember to not judge them on how they look (Facial hair, hair too long, baggy clothing) but instead show them what they must look like in order to be admitted.

Examples are great and if you can communicate the benefit of improving their professional appearance to that student perhaps that will give them another incentive to change. Thank you for your contribution Tuan.

We have to use some example to let them know it unacceptable for a future .. professional and ask them to manage their situations.

It looks like you have some challenging situations that you have to deal with from time to time. How can you empower your students to come to school in a professional manner?
