Goals
This new generation has no goals set.
Mike, I can appreciate your point of view, certainly. How do you address your concerns with your students?

What can I do to see if they are different?? I am an instructor with 12 years experience and a parent. I didn't say what I did because I read it on Facebook, I am 51 and have been around the block a few times, I teach at the college level and have taught over 9500 students in over 2100 classes and have around 12000 hours classroom experience. I have lost hope in this generation based on what I call my streetsmart. I don't mean to offend but, when your in the theater and texting through the entire movie, (this is to no one specifically, Im just ranting) I'm the one behind you wondering what my generation did to produce such a goalless society.

They don't have the same goals and their approach is to dream about them without ever having the motivation to get up and do them. It is a very lazy and disrespectful generation that is about to inherit the earth. Sadly, it is my generation that raised them this way...
From what Ive seen, they all want to be artist or YouTube starts. They would rather sit home at Moms and play Call of Duty than work at ACE Hardware. They have goals but, no motivation, they tell each other it is too hard to get a job, they all agree and play another round of video games. They have the attention span of kittens and can't make it through 10 minutes at a theater without pulling out their phones.
Dennis, That's a great point. How can help students today to realize, and achieve, their goals?

I certainly don't agree with that. I believe they have plenty of goals, they just aren't necessarily the same goals we had/have, and they don't necessarily approach achieving them in the same way that we did.
Bridgett, I want to make sure that I understand you correctly, can you explain further what is meant by this generation not having set goals?
