I am working on my written communication skills. It is easy to communicate on the phone, you can mirror the person and it is easy to adapt to their personality, I feel very comfortable talking on the phone. Face to face is also nice because you are able to read body language.
When communicating by email it is easy for your message to be misunderstood. I find myself having to rewrite emails before I feel that they are worded correctly so that the message will be clear. I will continue to work on and improve my written communication.

I get a lot of inquiries through email.
Would you give me some ideas as to how to best reply (this is in responds to someone is 80 to 100 miles away and have a problem getting in to visit school.
I do speak with the person when getting a phone number.
I respond with a thank you for interest in our Academy and a short statement about school and program they are interest in. Then I send a copy of our catalog to be reviewed and I responds again.

Interesting approach, Shan. I get the sense that you like to stay connected with your students and one of the ways you do this is through questions. Questions are a wonderful way to keep a conversation going. I'm curious, how do you make sure your emails are projecting a clear, concise tone to your students?

With my school I rarely have written communication, however potential students are always emailing me. I find that if I am concise and to the point without being abrupt that works best. I also like to engage potential students to reply to questions within my emails.

Excellent insight, Tammy. It appears that you are aware of your strengths when it comes to communicating by telephone and in person. It sounds like you also are thoughtful in how you approach your written communication too. What things might you do moving forward to continue to improve your written communication?
