I think you're overall demeanor and smile is a huge plus. Not folding your arms or seeming uninterested in the conversation is key as well. Use your hands in conversation to show interest.

I try to be as amiable as possible with the student, I try to be as available to them as possible for whichever issue they may have. Also, I demonstrate my commitment to my job.
