People can see you over the phone
Sometime a person can see you over the phone, your voice tone, your responds..People can see what type of day you are having just by the way you speak to them over phone. We should always check our smile to make sure its up and not down....
Try making yourself laugh, maybe read a joke before hand, laughter creates smiles, you can also ensure your smile by looking at pictures of something that makes you happy, it will in return make you react and therefore you will have a smile upon your face.
Thank you for your post Jessica. I'm so glad some of the tips on this forum are helping!

That's a very interesting idea. It probably helps to relax and open you up more as well. I can see how sitting might enable one to tense more easily and tenses, whether it be nerves or frustration, may be conveyed over the phone as well.
Answering the phone with a smile does help - you can hear it on the other end. Also, a good way to convey confidence in a difficult phone interaction is to physically stand up while conversing - gives you a sense of power/assertiveness that may be needed. The other person will have no idea you're standing!
Communication is a very important and something originations should stress from the top down and to students. This way everyone is aware of what is happing around them and will improve there learning experience overall.
First impressions are very important and it sounds like you're communicating the importance to your students. Great job!
I own a Dental Assisting School and we always tell our students as they go out in the field and start working in a dental office that the most important tool in the office is the phone. This is where you make your first impression. Most patients are afraid of the dentist , so answering the phone with a smile on your face helps.
There is a quote I've heard, "There are hundreds of languages in the world, but a smile speaks them all." Your point about being able to 'see' a smile over the phone is correct. Making sure to check our smile and attitude before every call can help us in many ways. I encourage others to post ways that you check your smile before your phone calls.
