Effective listening
I've learned to listen, listen, listen then repeat, rephrase and reflect...
Candis,
It also helps the person your communicating with understand what is expected of them. Thanks for your post!

THis is a very good point in effective listening. This way you are clear on what is expected of you and what the outcome should be
Deborah, great use of active listening. This will really help ensure that you understood the student and if not, they will clarify their thoughts for you. Sometimes, they will even share more.

Listen without interruption, then clarify.Question: "This is what I have understood you to say"? LISTEN
I have experience in recognizing when there is or not effective listening.I have being a teacher for over 30 years and of course students pay attention and listen. But the here is a difference between listening and hearing and you can check when asking questions, moving or walking in different directions while explaining, using interaction, using pictures, power point presentations, videos and maybe jokes... Effective listening depends very much on the speaker, topic, environment, length or duration and very important. The key of effective listening depends very much on the speaker's experience, knowledge, creativity, tone, intention and language used.Of course listeners interested too.
Amber, great! I am so glad that you were engaged and learned these new tools. Having as many tools as you can allows you to be resourceful and able to engage with many different people. Keep us posted with the progress in using these techniques.
