Addicting Level 1 Listening
The admissions field is a tough field to be a level 1 listener, how can someone combat this state of mind to be more successful?
I would agree with you Luis, utilizing other senses and using techniques such as taking notes to engage yourself in the conversation could help. I'm curious to know how this works for you, let us know!
I would say that I would need to create some sort technique to keep me grounded in the conversation. Something like use a note pad to make notes of what he/she is saying along the interview process. I feel that if I engage another one of the senses that it could help to maintain focus.
Luis, being aware that you are at Level 1 is the first step in combating your own barriers to listening. Listening is actually a choice and making an effort to listen at the next level takes practice. When you find yourself listening to your own inner voice at Level 1 rather than your student, what can you say to yourself or do to kick your listening up to the next level?
