How do you tell someone this school is not for them?

I work at a tech school so we teach one career class only. We are responsible for placing students in their first job, as we get audited on this. Sometimes potential students come in and I can see right off that they will not fit what the hiring offices are looking for. Sometimes I can tell by our phone calls that the caller has no idea what this career entails.

I agree Corin, sometimes people's first impressions can be quite deceiving. I have found that in our school, sometimes the worst beginners turn out to be the best successes.

Corin, Great awareness. Even though it may seem like each student has the same story, that is just not true.

I know I can pick out the prospective students that I don't feel would be a fit for the program we offer but on occasion someone surprises me and is amazing at this field of work. I have learned everyone deserves the chance to fall on their face or exceed and achieve. :)

Amanda,
Sometimes that does happen. What are some questions you ask the student to determine whether or not your school might not be the school for them?
