Shawn,
This sounds like a great way to start building rapport with the prospective student. Great job!
Dr. Jean Norris
I like to start with simple interview type questions like, so tell me about yourself. If they start telling me about their family and cat, then I can quickly gauge what type of personality I am communicating with. I find it helpful to gear the conversation to make the person feel comfortable.
Thanks for sharing, Sarah!
These are great questions for eliciting information from prospective students. However, I encourage you to be careful with "Why" questions. They tend to put others on the defensive. How else can you phrase your first question without using "why?"
Dr. Jean Norris
Why is now the right time for you to attend college?
What barriers do you face with your decision to come back to school?
Who do you have in your support network?
David, Thank you for posting! Do you find these questions get you all the information you need? Nicely done.

Who is the one person that would benefit from you receiving a college education?
NaTesha, Great questions! Do you find the student is willing to share a lot of information?
Elizabeth Wheeler
I think each question should build on the previous information shared unless the question seeks to gain new and important information.
What prompted you to pick up the phone and call today?
Tell me about your educational background.
Are you making this decision alone or is there someone helping you make this decision? If so, who?

Elizabeth Wheeler
What motivated you to call today? What is your previous education?

Rose, Yes, it's best to remain anonymous. However, will all of your favorite questions to ask give your school away?
Dr. Jean Norris
I can't answer that question without giving away the identity of our school. I believe we are to remain anonymous. Correct?
Rose, Thank you for posting. I'm curious, can you tell me more about your question "Did you hear that there is a shortage of workers in the field you are investigating"?
Dr. Jean Norris
