Dependent Students
Many times when we tell students under the age of 24 to come in with their parents or their parents taxes for financial aid they say they support themselves, do not live at home, or do not speak with their parents. Many parents are uncooperative and will not provide their information or sign for loans. Do you have any suggestions to overcome this? Dependent students cannot receive financial aid without parents income information.
I personally like to invite the parents in and take over the same process as the student completed. The parent needs to have the same buy in as the student so they can make an educated decision together. The more information and understanding the parent has will help to make a decision that is right for the student.
Deborah, Staying compliant is a must. Knowing that you are compliant, what is another conversation you can have with the student to build value to attend your institution, or meet this dependent student challenge?

Deborah, The first thing to consider is making sure to stay compliant. Keeping that in mind, what suggestions do you have to inform the student on the next possible steps?
