The different types of telephone techniques we can use are:
Inflection - use a warm and friendly tone. The student can't "see" you, so they respond to your tone of voice more so than what you say. Keep your moods and personal feelings out of it.
Speak clearly - if the student can't understand what you are saying because you are talking too fast or mumbling, they will lose interest fast or hang up on you.
Be sure to breathe - it will help alleviate any nerves or over excitement that prevents you from listening to the student
Listen carefully so you can respond appropriately
Smile - the student can "hear" your smile
