Tools to Overcome Obstacles
What tools could you use to help you address those obstacles?
Providing options is a great way to show prospective students that you are sensitive to their busy schedules and specific needs. Great job!

When asking for an appointment I asked them when is usually a good time for them to meet, morning or afternoon, and if its easier for them to come in on their days off. I will then give them 2 different options on time and on both of their days off.
Gina, Great idea! Keep up the great self-awareness training!

Feel, found, felt has always been one of my favorite tools to help overcome objectives. I always push myself to make one more call as well. Colleges and Universities usually give mirrors, head-sets, timing devices etc. I’ve always hated to listen to my voice in a recording –but should try recording myself and critic in private as an additional self-development tool.
Aaron,
Thank you for your post! Great question! Can anyone in the forum offer ideas to help Aaron out? How do all of you work your "old" inquiries?
Dr. Jean Norris
I've used this method for years and it's definitely been one of the most successful things I've used to allow the other person to know that I'm listening to them, that I understand and appreciate their opinion/point of view, and that regardless of the results there are options that I'm willing to help them toward.
What tools can help me with the following areas:
Working on leads/student requests that are almost 8-12 months old?
Working on past appointments where the student came into the office but for a given reason, they did not enroll?
Thank you very much.
I definitely believe that using feel, felt, found helps potential student realize they are not alone in their particular concern. I think it is a great way to neutralize their concern and reassure them there is a solution.
Rose, What a great tool! Helping the student to discover their own solutions is key; nicely done!

Since taking the course, I have found much benefit from using Feel, Felt & Found method. Empathizing with the student with whatever may be holding them back from enrolling (monetary, time constraints, insecurity). Assuring them that many students have had those same feelings. By acknowledging their obstacles, they overcame them to pursue successful career goals.
Liza, The 3 F's are a great practice! However what if the student still needs this challenge addressed, what is another good approach?
Dr. Jean Norris
Feel, felt, found is the perfect way to address most if not all concerns.
Julie,
How do you know which one to use when?
Dr. Jean Norris
Outweigh,Clarify and weaken
Chelsea,
That's great! This approach has been around for quite a while so what do you do when a prospective student reacts negatively? In other words...it can sound false at times and break rapport. Ever have this experience?
Dr. Jean Norris
Feel, felt, found is a great method and its exactly what I do when trying to address those obstacles.
Kathryn,
These sound like great resources! Thank you for sharing.

we have created a "solutions" book for admissions, and admin. for retention. Items like daycare info, dr. offices, transportation options like the city bus schedule, ridshare, psych. info, family services, law enforcement /shelter info, etc...is always at the ready in the event an "obstacle" comes up in initial interview, or after they've enrolled. This was a retention committee team effort, and I also give additional support to my psych. classes, and VA students who may be injured.
I'm so glad the three F's are working well for you! Thank you for your post, keep up the good work.
