volunteering and letting the students give back to the community is great PR
This is great, Wanda. Lots going on when students volunteer. They work together and bond with each other and ideally faculty and staff. This helps with retention. They do something they can feel proud about. And your school has the opportunity to gain some news covereage. And of course the organizations benefit. YOu might also want to include your alumni. Thanks, Susan
Our students choose to psrticipste in a leadership project. Some projects have been to bring their old clothes and give them away, made baskets for Parents in Need, Give school supplies to first time teachers, and food baskets.
That's a good point Ruth. Can you tell us more about your opinion or experiences? What kind of volunteering do you encourage? Are there school wide events where students participate? For example massage therapy schools often set up chair massage centers at conferences, sports, or community events. Students get to practice on a lot of different body types. Other schools volunteer to staff certain community events. A lot of publicity can be generated and it promotes student commeraderie. And puts students in touch with teachers and staff. This helps students learn what kinds of resources these people are and how they can assist in helping the student through graduation. It would be helpful to you Ruth, if you created a volunteer project at your school and told us about it. Thanks, Susan
