Getting people to our website

I have what I consider a great website and those who know about are very positive.

Here is my problem...when I Google my type of school, I cannot locate our website. It now only comes up when I type the actual name of the school and location. My web person has paid someone to supposedly get it to come up in the first page or two, but it does not.

Any suggestions, that are not too costly?

Thanks
Jan

Connie,
Good points, Connie, and great lessons for all of us who count on our websites. There are many businesses and schools that get 100% of their leads from their websites. And typically these leads are highly qualified, which is essential when you are enrolling students that you want to graduate and gain employment. Thanks, Susan

Hi Jan!
I also have a great website. It is very interactive and informative. I had to use google ad words to bid on placement. When you type in the url you will see my school on the first page, between 1-5. It is a little pricey but I do get a lot of leads this way. If you have someone who is great in sales, you can flip them and make up for the advertising costs.

Hi Karin
Great ideas for Janis and all of us. Bottom line is that every school should have a great website structured for search engine optimization. It may sound expensive with having to hire the right web people and search engine optimizers. But it sure does pay off. Imagine getting most of your leads from your own school website. Thanks, Susan

Hi Janis, there are many things you can do yourself to get your website listed higher in the rankings. One major part is repetition of keywords in your text. Include an article on the bottom of your website front page that keeps on repeating the important keywords. Include a sentence with these keywords in your title properties. Don't list more than 10 to 12 keywords. Look at the source code of other websites that are listed on the top when you search for your school in the search engines. That should give you an idea which keywords are important.

Thanks Jeff. One way to build an email list is to ask ask ask. Everytime someone calls your school ask for their email and permission to send information. Then send valuable and interesting content. Also ask students, grads, employers, etc. for emails of people who would like to receive information. Lists are great. Thanks, Susan

I can identify with Susan regarding building an email list. Great way to reach out to prospective students. School Open Houses are an effective way to build an email list fortified with real tangible leads.

Hi Shelly and Jan, Focusing on internet marketing can be really effective. There's a lot you can do on your own. Like blogs, using the various social websites, and developing an effective website. Also think about emailing out. That takes thinking of every email as gold and asking students, leads, grads, employers - everyone for their email so you can constantly send out information - interesting information. Best wishes, Susan

Hi Jan,

You should look into google anlytics. It really helps you analyze how effective your website is. The other thing is getting exposure by writing blogs on the internet that talk about your school. The more the name is out there (as long as it is good press) the more likely your school will come up in the search engine. However, I also agree with Susan about getting outside professional help. Can be costly but most definitely worth it!

Hi Jan
Websites are always a challenge. You can have the best looking website with great content, but it's structure may be such that search engines don't pick it up. Example - words in graphics that can't be read by search engines. Outside help is always good. If you aren't getting results from your current web consultants suggest you try another. Also subscribe to High Rankings. You'll have to google for the info. Good luck, Susan
