publicity

what I've learned is that our school needs publicity as well as advertising. We will implement if not all then at least 99% of all suggestions that pertain to our school in regards to publicity and that we don't have in place yet.

That's great. The goal is to use marketing and publicity strategies that are do-able and that you can measure results. Some efforts produce immediate results and others long term. So you need many ways to determine what is working to reach qualified students. Thanks, Ssuan

publicity is very important for my school, and I will implement all that I learn.

Hi Lee-ann Really great point that publicity is very personal to the school and hard to copy. If you look around at your school there are so many publicity opportunities. Every student has a success story if you just ask them. Your staff too. All these can be turned into news articles and brochures. Newspapers are often looking for news, especially at the last minute when a big story has been cancelled. And local newspapers are always looking for something about local residents - like if they have graduated from their school. It takes some organization but after a while publicity can become automatic. Thanks, Susan

I've learned that not only do we need a blend of publicity and advertising, publicity is unique in the sense that our competitors aren't able to piggy-back on our marketing ideas as easily with publicity compared to advertising. I've realized that publicity is unique information and content such as news and stories about our services whereas advertising can be placed or bought anywhere. This has been a very helpful realization especially since our school faces very tough competition who replicates nearly all of our advertising initiatives.

HI Zara, Yes, it is important to include pubicity and public relations strategies within your marketing plan. Publicity is relatively inexpensive and often targets your ideal students. As you've learned from this course, it takes a lot of work to put a publicity plan in place that can be easily implemented. Can you please list at least 10 ideas to start with. Also include ways to measure results for these 10 ideas. While there are tried and true public relations methods, it is still important to customize them and see which work best for your school. Thanks, Susan
