Importance of ADA

Enacting a law that limits and promotes opportunity for all individuals is not a program that should be frowned upon but should rather be embraced. I understand that it can be frustrating for instructors to "feel imposed on" by making accommodations but it should be rather looked upon as a great opportunity. We are allowing more individuals to achieve their goals and become fulfilled in their lives.

This ought to be why one gets into teaching: to promote growth and impart skills to all individuals seeking to grow and learn.

Gregory,
It is always case-by-case. And I suppose the better answer to our question is that the goal how far they should go) is a function of how far they NEED to go to assure equal access. It isn't about providing something(s) because the student missed others, and balancing what they didn't get with what you offer now. It is about offering everything that is needed for full access.

How far should the school go to accomodate for different disabilities. Should there be a written standard or is it all case by case?

Gloria,
That's it, exactly. Hopefully, you didn't sign on to teach students "just like me" or even "normal" students. You signed on to teach students at your institution, and we need to recognize that students with disabilities are full members of that community.
