Job requirements
So the institution may not be able to deny based on capabilities such as lifting a certain amount of weight or bending/stooping/kneeling for periods of time (as in nursing), but when looking for a career as a nurse, for example, these are all stipulations of acquiring the job. How can we, as educators, set students up to fail like this?
Amy,
Not all nurses work in settings where such physical requirements are the norm (and, for that matter, having those listed as physical requirements is no more legal in employment than it is in training!). Besides, do you guarantee that every student who goes through your program will be hired at the end? If not, it would be discriminatory to deny a student a chance to train because you didn't THINK they could get hired at the end.
