Attitudinal Barriers

This area really hit home for me. I've been the person to succomb to stereotypes and have looked at a disabled person in pity and I've also have limited their options because of my inexperience. So for me, personally, I need to remember you never know what a person is capable or incapable of so DON'T assume.

Gregory,
Wow! That's impressive. And it is a great reminded not to *assume* anything based on what we think we know about someone's limitations.

That is very true, we do not know what people are capable of. Often time we are not even aware of what we ourselves are capable of. My brother was born with muscular dystrophy but went on to wrestle in the state championships in high school and still holds football record for most extra points made in a single game.

Car'Lika,
That's a great lesson to have come away with from the class. I'm glad you've revised your thinking and are more open now. Your students in the future will gain from your enlightenment!
