fair or not?
I understand that if you have someone who is physically disabled we should not sway them away from a program. But if it is going to be difficult for them to perform daily tasks that involve physical activity is that fair to accept them into the program anyway?
This is tough, because if the student fails, I would probably think, why didn't I give him/her a heads up on the difficulties they may have in the program? But I also understand that it is not my place to crush someone's dreams.
Violet,
Ouch! That is the very attitude -- with the best of intentions -- that has created barriers for people with disabilities for years. What you are saying is, "Shouldn't we protect them from making a dumb decision by not allowing them to try at all?" When was the last time you thought about turning away a student without a disability who met the qualifications and wanted to try -- no matter what you thought of their chances or their skills? Don't go there.
