stereotypes

This portion of the module help me realize that sometimes we use stereotypes unintentional and that it could be hurtful to others. I will be more mindful of my words.

I agree with don't judge is book by its cover, sometimes we stereotype and only see people by their disability not by all the other qualities that they have.

Roy,
I agree. Just because someone is labeled with a particular disability, it doesn't mean that it creates the same limitations functionally as it does in another.

Sarah Smoger

I agree with you Roy. Stereotyping can be part of someones upbringing. Education begins at home and now days is imperative that we have an open mind and not to be judgmental.

It is very easy to mistake stereotypes with fact. Many times we are raised with these prejudices and they are assumed to be fact.

Dont judge a book by its cover! It is easy to look at prospective students and make conclusions before we ever dive into who they are and what they are capable of accomplishing.

sometimes it has to be a very conscious effort especially being surrounded by stereotype in media

I agree,I teach my students to do something that I practice as well, and that is to think before you speak. Alot of times it will prevent us from saying something that may be hurtful to others.

I agree Heather. I have recognized that sometimes fear can be detrimental in this area when dealing with the concept of disabilities. I appreciated that these articles largely focused on "people are people" and to treat others respectfully and fairly. I greatly appreciated this topic and feel that I learned something new.
