I agree Mary, its both. With the stressful times of studying and then putting in 8 hours a day of clinicals Mon-Fri that in it self, one would definitely say they've earned it and deserved it. I would also say the same with their accomplishments.

Both.  I believe if you look at education as a right and a priviledge --you  will do better because you feel you earned it and deserve it.
