Importance of completing an Education
Discussion on how the Financial Aid process is effected when a student decides to withdraw from school and tries to re-enter.
Monique, I agree with you about revisiting the responsibilities/negative impacts with students. At Orientation and quarterly town hall meetings , I review the requirements for TIV and institutional scholarship eligibility. At the same time, I empahsize communicating with us if they are even considering dropping whether it is a single course or completly. We are there to make sure they have the full picture before they finalize their decision. We also review the entrance counseling at each repack, usually twice during a student's program. Finally, I attempt contact each student at risk of being dropped for attendance by phone and email to make them aware of the financial ramifications of dropping.
Monique ,
I agree it is very important to discuss with a student their rights and responsibilities in their overall educational experience. There are times a student will make the wrong decision without realizing the impact to their FA process and funding. Keeping the lines of communication open are critical to the student's success and the success of the educational process.
Sincerely, Chyrl

It is important to ensure the student understands his eligibility and their responsibility upon entering the school. Entrance counseling is key in order for them to understand the negative impact that dropping can have on their FA. A plan should always be in place to revisit these responsibilities and negative impacts with any students at risk of dropping. This can helps in preventing drops.
Robertina,
I consistent and clear message to students is very important to students when making decisions about their education. It is very beneficial when all departments are cleared on what the expectations will be in the educational process.
Sincerely,
Chyrl Ayers
we must be very clear to them, that way they may change theu mind and continue with program.
Samuel,
Knowledge is powerful and will assist the studnet with understanding their responsibilities and rights. It is good to post information in the FA Office and on the boards around the college as a reminder to students.

I agree. Providing proper and fulfilling Entrance Counseling can very well be the necessary roots to begin a positive experience with the Financial Aid office. I personally have noticed such a change in student attitude when I educate them regarding their rights and options. I personally always do what I can to provide students with as much information as possible and if I can't help I show them the person who can.
It is important to let students become aware of what decisions they are making. The only thing that we can do is to provide the information that will guide them on their certain decisions.
Erica,
Your point is a very interesting outlook on the life cycle of the student. I agree if you can get the student through the early portion of the program they end to stay through completion. It is not easy balancing work, school and home.
Sincerely,
Chyrl
There are many factors involved when a student first brings up the idea of withdrawing. From my experience, most students that do not withdraw within the first few weeks, will stay with the program long-term. I am sure every school wants to keep their students, but sometimes, it is best for the student to drop and try to re-enroll later when they are able to balance school.
I agree Joshua. That is why it is so important to provide good entrance counseling when a student starts their education. You always want to ensure the student knows up front exactly what they can expect to receive in financial aid and when those funds will come in to cover the cost of their education.
Thanks,
David McGuffee
This is usually such an negative impact on the FA process maily due to balances left to pay to the school once they leave. Adding that much more expense to the already hard to fund programs usualy leads to let down students. But it is something that with work between student services and financial can be helped greatly. Once a student knows the financial impact of dropping has on them returning reduces the drop rate a ton.
Becca,
It takes all departments working to together to meet the needs of the student body and their needs vary from student to student. Communication (both verbally and written) is the best tool to ensure that each area is working to solve a student's issue. It is important for the departments to meet and exchange ideas on how to better meet the needs of the student body.
Best wishes in your continued growth in financial aid and online education.
Sincerely, Chyrl
Our school doesn't just rely on one department to talk to the student. It goes back on daily contact with the students through the Education Department, Admissions is also responsible for weekly contact until the student has completed 30 days and if it still comes down to the student withdrawing we usually try to DNE them so we can just reenroll them at a later date and it doesn't affect their TIV but if we do have to Drop them in most cases they usually failed their last class so we ask that they take it over (audit the class) to show good faith and commitment then if they pass we will repackage them as a Re-Enter.
Jose,
It is critical that students are provided with all facts when deciding on whether to complete or terminate their education. Many students will reevaluate their priorities when faced with the consquences of withdrawing. All members of the education team should provide the student with the necessary information to make the right decision.
Thank you for your participation in our online training program and I wish the best in all of your personal and career endeavors. Chyrl
Not only how much money they have spent but how much money they may end up owing out of pocket because of the timing of their withdrawal. That usually works to change their minds.
Christa,
I agree with your approach. It is wise for a student to have all of the facts before they make a decision that could have long term consequences. They need to understand the positive and negative aspects of the decision.
Chyrl
When a student wants to withdraw, we sit with them and try to talk to them about how much time and money they have spent. Usually it changes their mind.
Janele,
It is important to make the student aware of his/her options so that they can make an informed decision. However, it is difficult to see a student make decisions that may have a negative impact on their ability to finance their education. The best we can do is proved the student with accurate information and counsel them on the impact of certain decisons.
Thanks, Chyrl
