Exit Interview are very Important for withdraw student. I Sugget exit interview for student is by emailing them the link or sending exit interview by mail.

Nichole, Great response and a good process to follow. It is so critical these days that your students recieve their exit counseling. You never want a student to leave school without a clear understanding of their rights and responsibilities regarding any federal loans they may have recieved during their time in school.

Regards,

David McGuffee

We have an internal process that requires the student to aquire a financial specialist signature. We cover the student's balance and conduct exit counseling at that time before we sign the document. It doesn't help with the students that just never return. We follow Cheryl's advice on those type of withdrawals.

We are working together with our registrar's office so when the student exits the institution it is a requirement that the student complete an electronic exit interview through the department of education. We have the student come to the office and verify that it is completed. We find that it works well with our students and they are well informed.

Nicole,

This is an issue that most of face and the best method is send the exit packet to their most current mailing address. If you collect email addresses from your students this would be another avenue to pursue when sending out Exit Packets.

Magdali,

Agree. As FA Professionals it is important that we are consistently looking for methods to connect with the students that withdraw and provide them with the necessary information to handle decisions related to the financial aid borrowing experience.

Sincerely,

Chyrl Ayers

It is very important that every withdraw student return to complete the exit interview. If they did visit FA office we mail a letter indicating the website where they can visit and complete the exit counseling.

Yes it has been our experience at the campus that students rarely ever come in for exit interviews. We send exit packets certified mail to ensure the student did in fact receive a copy.

Ricardo,

Exit interviews are a critical method in communicating to students their rights and responsibilities related to federal loans. How do you deliver these important documents to your students? Do you find it difficult to get these to students that ceasing attending? If so, what action do you take to make sure the students recieve these?

Sincerely,

Chyrl Ayers

Yes, I'm Compleatly agree with you Exit Interview is an Important and required process for every student who takes out a federal student loan. This process will help you with repayment, as well as management of your personal finances. This is the time when you will learn the rules, how you can consolidate your loans, and avoid defaulting on payments.

Marjie,

The best approach to handling a withdrawn student is face-to-face. It is great that your Education Department works with you to insure you meet with students withdrawing. The ones you meet with will have a better understanding of the requirements of withdrawing. The students that concern me are the ones that just disappear. These are the students that you hope will contact you if they do not understand the exit counseling they receive.

Good luck in your pursuit of contunued financial aid educational knowledge.

Sincerely,

Chyrl Ayers

I agree on both points that it is extremely difficult to reach out a withdrawn student as well as preparing an "exit" packet to be sent out. I like to take a step further and I work very close with the education department which they either call me into their office when a student withdraws or they send the student to me. I use this time to review with that student how their status change will affect their aid and do exit counseling at that time.

Regina, The exit interview process is so important for the student when they leave school, either by graduation or by early withdrawal. They need to know what is expected of them regarding the repayment of their student loans. Thanks, David McGuffee

I agree I feel that exit interviews are extremely important along with entrance interviews. It is very important to explain to the students and parents what their financial aid obligation will consist of when student start classes and upon completing of the program. It helps the students understand their financial aid and that it is their responsibility to keep in contact with the holder of their loans. When students notify Financial Aid of them withdrawing I try to complete exit interviews at that time,if students are withdrawn then exit interviews are mailed to the students asking them to mail them back.

Trudy,

The process for your graduates seem very solid. If you read any of the other post from online learners you probably noticed that they have more issues with withdrawals who just stop attending. I would encourage you to continue to look for ways to draw them back into the process. A graduate is a great success story for the college.

We have been very successful in getting graduating students to complete exit interviews. Graduating students are mailed a packet. Each student must complete a graduation checklist where they must meet with Career Services, Financial Aid, and the Registrar. Students who fail to complete the checklist are not allowed to participate in commencement.

Students who drop are very difficult to help. We mail materials to them, but other than that we can't get them to come in. We help them through efforts for default management as best we can but they are our highest defaulters.

Abby,

It is important that students that coming to perform their Exit Counseling in person receive and understand the information being presented to them. If you believe a checklist would be benficial then you should add it to your process. For students that fail to come in and just disappear I would definitely provide them with a detail outline of what is contained in their mailed/emailed Exit Counseling with a contact name and number to assist in case they have questions.

Sincerely, Chyrl

Do you recommend utilizing a check list for Exit Counseling appointments that outlines all pertinent data - a check list that is signed by both the student and the employee copmleting the Exit Counseling? In cases where the student is not able to be reached and an Exit Counseling package is mailed to the student, do you recommend including a document that outlines the pertinent data, in addition to the federal Exit Counseling brochure?

Virginia,

Since you use some of the same methods as suggested I am curious how successful are you at getting students to respond to the request to complete the Exit Interview process. Do you have a large success rate?

Sincerely,

Chyrl

I agree. We use the same method as yours in our school.
