Donn,
Based on your response you have a good solid process in place to take care of all students, even though requiring more hands on assistance. The FOTW is a good process but it is necessary to provide assistance to those who require additional help.

Our prospective students are instructed to use FOTW to complete the application. In case of difficulties, students and parents are encouraged to call for assistance. We enroll between 120 to 150 students per year, with 40-50 students starting at a time in either January, May or October. Although the majority do not need any assistance, there are always a few that I help by leading them through the process over the phone or by having the student an/or parent come to our school and I assist them. This usually happens either when the student does not have computer access or or lacks computer literacy.
Mazoe,
Great points on the benefits of using FOTW. It allows the student to take ownership of the process and understand where they are in in the process.

Garnett,
I am sure that FOTW and other only collection methods are the best way to go when dealing with students all over the country. Collecting electronic information is a great way to expedite the process for your students.

Our campus uses FAFSA on the Web (FOTW). It is very convenient for us because most of our students are online. It also speeds up the financial aid process, giving the student access to their FAFSA whenever they need to make corrections.
We use Fafsa on the web.We are an online school so the majority of our paperwork is completed that way.
Mayra,
We think that most of the FA Comunity is coming to appreiate the IRS DRT functionality. It has improved the user experience and relieves the FA teams of one additional responsibility. Additionally, the use of the online application process has definitely provided a quicker turn-around timeframe.

In our institution uses the FOTW it is much quicker method, the IRS data retrieval tool is also very helpful to the students. Also when the student completes the FOTW the estimate EFC # is displayed as well as the estimated Pell eligibility. In which this information may be very use full to the students.
Regina,
I think you have an excellent process. It's good that you and your FA office have embraced the online format and kept it uniform for all of your students.

We use the same processes, All students complete their FAFSA on the web using the e tool for transmit of tax information. If they can not link then student, spouse or parent must request tax transcript. I also try to teach student to make their corrections on FAFSA. such as (updating information, address change or household.
Erin ,
It is always good to hear that this enhancement has been a benefit to campuses and students. I appreciate your willingness to share the success of your students and the improved experience that they are having in the online FOTW process.

AT our institution we use the online FAFSA. Like previously commented from other individuals it is easier for the student because of the IRS data retrieval. This helps us with the students that are flagged for verification.
Karolina,
I think you have a great process. I especially appreciate the approach you are taking with parents. You approach is a meaningful way to introduce the campus and FA to the parent. Confidence in the process is extremely important.

My school uses the online FAFSA application. We find it is the easiest form to use and it is also the quickest. If a student is a dependent we offer to have the parent come into the office to complete the application, or we give them screen shot directions about what to expect on the application if they chose to complete it at home. Most of the time student's elect to have their parent come in so that they get to meet us and see the school for themselves. This also helps our retention if we can get the parent on board even if they are not paying for the education they are in favor of it.
Michael,
I think most of us in the FA Community are coming to appreciate the IRS DRT functionality. It has improved the user experience and relieves the FA teams of one additional responsibility. It is great that you and your team have embraced the online process with success.

We use FOTW. We are an only institution and it is more convenient for our department as well as the student to complete the application online. All of our staff is trained to support the students over the phone if they get stuck or they are not sure how to answer a particular question. We highly recommend to use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool (DRT). It has been buggy in the past but it is slowly becoming the norm because students don't want to deal with tax transcripts. Frankly, neither do I!
Sergio,
I understand your decision to assist students. You have to know and understand the best approach to your students.
Sincerely,
Chyrl Ayers
No. We assist each and everyone. This assures no mistakes are made.
Sergio,
That is a good process to follow and it allows the student to control the process and inquire for assistance when necessary. Do most of your students complete this process without assistance?
Sincerely,
Chyrl Ayers
All our students use FAFSA on the web. When students are selected for verification, and some correction has to be done, then we use FA Access to make them.
