New Graduate Surveys

We have not instituted a policy for student surveys as of yet but it is something the director is interested in.

I was leaning towards an email survey as opposed to a regular letter. Our focus is on hands on training with minimal class room hours. I am thinking that asking our graduates who are all laborers to mail a survey back will not yield the results we are looking to document.

1. Is this method too informal?

2. How far back should I pull grad data from?
(I was thinking at least the last year is a
good time frame for graduate responses to be
fresh- though I have data from the last 3 yrs)

Rosio,
Surveys are always a challenge no matter how short or the promises that it will only take a minute or so. That's why we schedule surveys in a multiple number of ways. The goal is to get data and we do what it takes. This includes electronic emailed surveys, survey monkey, mail (believe it or not), phone calls, and simply going into class on the last day, handing the surveys out, and collecting them. Thanks, Susan

Email would be the best way, however it might take a little more effort than that to actually get the graduates to do it.

Jessica,

Getting people to fill in surveys is certainly a challenge. You might try emailing, mailing, etc. Then you might have to get people on the phone and call them. To increase success be sure you stay in contact with grads early and often. That's a reason for an Alumni Community. When you have connected with current grads then keep going back year by year. These alumni are great resources to the school. Thanks, Susan
