be positive and have other graduates that are now successful share their stories.
Amber,
Your newsletter sounds like it must be a great help to your students!
Elizabeth Kemler
I do the same thing,
In my field my students have to be licensed to really do much once they have completed the program.
In my newsletter I include success stories, active job leads, encouragement about getting licensed, and of course a reminder that we are always there for them!
I consistently keep them encouraged by telling them to apply for more than employer. My mother has always told me 'Never put your eggs in one basket.' Explore all opportunities then narrow it down to the one that will be the best fit.
I too send blast email job leads to our students and graduates. This is an internet world and inform them to consistently check their email for job interview invites from employers. Once they get to the interview, they will be able to show their worth and shine during the interview. The first set is getting in the door.
LaVerne,
It sounds like you really know how to connect with and motivate your students. And using personal experience is a great idea!

I have been there done that myself. Therefore, I try to identify and connect with my students/grads by sharing my personal experience and how I overcame the issue. The students/grads need assurance that they are not the only ones that has or have experienced this discouragement. I give them all positive feedback, empower them to make lemonade out of the lemons and inspire them with motivating words to help build their confidence and get them focused again.
Joshuah,
That's a great thing to include. I know from experience that a little boost at the right time goes a long way.

I utlize email to send "job leads" to graduates. I always include a positive thought for the day along with a message of encouragment... my mantra is never give up. I get positive feedback from students. I have heard the positive thought or quote has really been helpful and supportive.
