Struggling students...
What do you personally do when a student is struggling with certain hands on training techniques becoming discourage about their new career?

First, I would remind him/her that this is a learning process; everyone who starts something new needs time to learn what they need to learn. Secondly, I would encourage them to ask questions. Many new interns and new employees are shy about asking for direction as they fear it will make them look stupid or foolish but it is always better to ask a few times then to make a mistake that could end up having negative repercussions. Finally, I would suggest to the student that they have patience with themselves and cut themselves some slack, if for not other reason than the harder we are on ourselves, the more likely we are to make mistakes.
