Internships

Our college does not/is not able to offer these, we survey area businesses and we can not get enough businesses to commit to them. There are several large universities in the area that seem to cover all of the internship possibilities around us. I always tell our students that it's not a problem, to do some volunteering and speak of other jobs that relate to what they will be doing. Do you feel that not having internships harms our students? Do you have any other suggestions?

Missy,

Hmm, that's a tough one. I have certainly seen and heard that internships do help as they introduce the student to the workforce and give the students an opportunity to get hands on experience. Has any of your career services team attempted to compile a list of reasons why your students are special/will offer something unique? I think that perhaps putting together some kind of marketing materials representing the best of what your students have to offer might be a good idea. What do you think?
