Hi Robert,
The admissions representatives schedule appointments for new enrollees with Career Services within 2 weeks of their original enrollment date. We discuss career goals, academic goals, the importance of attendance and grades, etc. It is basically like a friendly interview/discussion. I record all of this on a survey form our college uses, and then speak with the Admissions rep about any potential concerns. I also communicate this information to the Academic Dean, and Faculty Chairs if necessary.
Institution-wide collaboration is a goal we work at every day, very consistently. Our school already had some of this in place before I came on board, however it has evolved quite a bit in my time here. Due to excellent staff and faculty, there is a strong sense of community spirit, because we realize we are all working toward a common goal. One of the added benefits to this is during recruitment of new staff or faculty, this type of mentality is an obvious factor in determining employment eligibility.
During my time here, because of excellent leadership and effective staff recruitment, it has been a process, but it has been relatively seamless.

Carolyn,

I noticed you stated you communicate issues with new enrollments after enrollment but before classes begin. I'm curious if you could share what process you have in place that allows you to collect data on these students prior to class starting to be able to initiate these conversations with other departments. Additionally, in your process, what are you assessing and how are you assessing it? Can you elaborate on this process?

Out of curiosity, can you also provide background on how your institution has reached this current state of collaboration. Did you start in your current role with all of this in place, did you have to work over a period of time to reach your current state of greater institution-wide participation, etc.? Was there immediate buy-in from others or was the process challenging? If you could explain, I think it would help current and future forum participants.

Thank you for your thoughtful forum response. This is already beginning to be a great discussion!
