Institutional Best Practices to Maximize Graduate Employment Outcomes --> Making Relationships Your Differentiator

Post what you've learned about this topic and how you intend to apply it. Feel free to post questions and comments too.

I love this section that emphasizes building long-lasting relationships and trust thru steady, consistant, collaborative efforts that benefit all stakeholders! Partnering with community organizations, beyond potential employers, solidifies the educational institution's perception by the community it serves & establishes a multi-pronged approach to "give-back". In addition, partnering with Alumni to promote their own stories, speaks volumes about the integrity of the graduate's experience & willingness to assist, a student who is coming up behind them. Their words are hugely powerful and make lasting impressions on upcoming graduates.

Involving key partners in the community can help with providing readienss resources to students. There are credentials available as well.

Creating a full circle relationship from student to alumni back to alumni being the contact and mentor for newer students is a great way to help students feel more confident and resurceful.

It is very important to engage with your alumni and community. It's very important to attend your community partners' events and show them an appreciation for hiring our alumni. As well as partnering with time to provide helpful resources to our alumni.

I have learned that you can reach out to the community to build relationships with that will not only help with employment opportunities for students and alumni but also help them overcome employment barriers wherein these companies could provide guest speakers and seminars on interviewing, and work place readiness. I have also been reminded of the importance of early intervention with students wherin it is critical to build strong and trusting relationships with students from their first day of class until post graduation. I intend to not only meet with students in the classroom in the beginning and end of each semester but also find creative ways to have students participate in school functions throughout the semester such as peer tutoring and help create and market necessary seminars for each program.

We must engage everyone on campus as wellas our Alumni and other eduacational partners in order to be sucessfull.

The student's succes depends on this cohesive relationship.

We currently have alumni who are highly engaged with our program. I like the idea from S. Brassard about recognizing these alumni further to highlight these relationships with current students, community groups & families.

This module really puts relations between industry, community organizations, higher education, alumni and faculty into perspective.  In order to have a successful program, relationships must be strong across all areas.  One area that tends to lack is alumni relations.  Alumni tend to move away or we lose contact because their email addresses shut down within 6 months of graduation.  Putting together an alumni organization to maintaining those relationships can truly benefit the program.

Being involved in the community is so important in networking and problem solving.

We do a fair deal of alumni recognition but could benefit from creating an alumni Hall of Fame, not only would it be a nice way to recognize alumni but it would also be a means to show current students that they are valued and show examples of successes that can be achieved for themselves.

Relationships with alumni provide important networks for both the institution and students. These connections incease career opportunities for students and provide future candidates for businesses.

The role of the advisory team is one of the most important relationships of the CTE program, mentors are a good tool for incoming freshmen, marketing for our school is an ever changing process.

I will reach out to alumni, maybe have them do interviews-mentoring.

We have a strong advisory board to help us. We also incorperate alumni into our advisory board, as well as having alumni come into the classroom and guest speak to the students (pre COVID).

Having a strong, knowledgeable advisory board can make all the difference to a program.  Members included from current students/families, former students, higher education and industry can work together to see the needs of industry, post-secondary education and the students perspective.  Former graduates have been able to give the most relevant feedback and suggestions to what students in the program need for skills for industry while relating their educational experience to the needs they found when entering the workforce.

A strong advisory team with former students and parents included is very helpful to see the whole picture

We have been building a strong relationship with all our industry partners.  Our partners help us identify new skills or equipment, which will push our students to be better candidates for entry-level positions.  It is important to have a strong relationship with as many industry partners as possible.

Although we do not have any alumni on our advisory board currently, I think it would benefit our program to get feedback from these individuals regarding which items in the curricula were beneficial toward the goal of job acquisition and which parts of the curriculum need revision to be more effective tools in the workplace.

Our program is fortunate to have 1 alumnus on our advisory board. We should reach out to other alumni who are in the industry and utilize their knowledge and experience.

Having a strong advisory board including various members helps programs outcomes tremendoulsy.

Collaboration and connection with community parters, program advisory boards, faculty, career advisors, administration, and alumni are all important factors to promote employment/employer networking to increase employment opportunities for students.
