I work at LCB in Dallas. We are surrounded by some of Texas' most celebrated and award-winning high school Career and Technology Education Centers. This is an untapped arena for us to begin our relationship with our future customers. I think we could improve in this area, as our potential students are leaving town to get their education when we are literally right in their backyard.
I know a big area my school is looking to improve on is website presence. It has been something the school has been working on for a few years now to improve the student experience.
Chelsea, Thank you for your insights! How would you improve word of mouth information between current students?
Dr. Jean Norris
Angela, Great! So how can you improve your customer touch points?
Dr. Jean Norris
Currently our school uses a variety of external touch points including being present at any local event in which prospective students might be attending as the event has something to do with one of the programs we have to offer. I think one way we can definitely improve is just word of mouth in which we would need our current students to have a positive outlook on their school experience.
This course was timely as I set up experience for students near completion of their program. The objectives included hands-on practice managing their peers. It was very helpful to read the concise points offered and with examples the students recovered some energy and participated with renewed enthusiasm
Kendrick, Great suggestion! Do you think this will make a larger impact on your students?
Dr. Jean Norris
I can set up a time to meet with you students on a more consistent basis as well as when they want to meet.
Elizabeth, First impressions are important; what do you suggest to make this first impression memorable?
Dr. Jean Norris
Elizabeth, First impressions are important; what do you suggest to make this first impression memorable?
Dr. Jean Norris
First Impression's are very important to potential students and the feeling they get as soon as they walk into a building gives this impression,
Nani, Agreed. It is so important to keep improving/adding new things to add value for your customers.
Dr. Jean Norris
We are working on better community customer touch points all the time. I think continued effort in reaching out to community resources for networking, educational, professional events, etc. is needful. Offering services to the community that can be provided by our college is also a great opportunity.
Kendrick, Interesting! How would you improve your process of reaching out to students?
Dr. Jean Norris
The touch points at my school are the website, the externships, orientation sessions. I'm not sure of our schools needs to improve because I only teach one class a week so i'm not there a lot, but as for me. I will say that I can continue to reach out to students, and others that ask me what I do for work as an opportunity to create a better touch point.
Laurel, Excellent! Thank you for sharing.
Dr. Jean Norris
I agree that it is imperative for our students to know how beneficial it is to them to develop their professional skills first in our laboratory classroom, then through the clinical rotations. This, in turn, will relfect on our school as an institution that values professional conduct for all the students.
For me personally every time I interact in the community I am aware that I am a reflection on my school. It never fails someone will ask me what I do and then the questions keep coming. I usually have some brochures and business cards to pass on to prospective students. I also have permission to hand out admission rep. phone numbers.
Laurel, Great suggestion! Thank you for sharing.
Dr. Jean Norris
As a nurse educator one of my responsibilities is teaching clinical courses. It is very important for the student to know that the institution where we are doing our rotation may possible be their future employer, therefore the staff are evanuating them and they are also evaluating the facility to see if this is a place they would like to work. It works both ways, and the school would like to keep this site for future students. I also reinforce to them that we are guests and as guests will are on our best behavior.
