Retention

I know as instructors we are not necessarily here to entertain but I feel if you can have fun with your students they will warm up to you faster, pay attention and want to come to class.

Who ever said learning cant be fun. I have had great success with this method for the past 12 years and my retention averages about 96%

I am interested in other teaching styles,we can all improve.I look forward to any comments.

I like haveing fun in the class and so should the student.

I strongly agree with you on your view and I also share similar techniques when I teach. To some degree the student must feel that they are getting the most for their money, and that includes making it fun. Having a good sense of humor, smiling, greeting them as they come to your class, asking them a lot of questions and bringing your on personal experience.Always being honest by letting them know that we too make mistakes and reminding them that we also had a starting point in life.

Can you give some examples of the topics, Todd?

Some times some freindly bantering between Instructors or instructor and lab instructor can rejuvenate or motivate a class. It is entertaining and gets attention.

What do you do to make a class fun and entertaining, Michael?

Mr. Henry, I agree with you, a class should be fun and entertaining as long as all the course material is presented to the students in a way they can understand. Most of our students are hands on learners so most of the material is presented to the students in lab. I have found that this helps with my retention numbers.

How about sharing some of your most effective techniques, Timothy?
