Satisfaction with their choice!

It's all about choices! So, making the course interesting enough to prove that their choice was or is the right one, keeps them coming back for more. Once hooked the student quickly realizes that they must be there to satisfy their desire to learn.

I have been fortunate to be teaching mainly hands-on courses. In massage therapy it is not hard for students to see the relevance of these courses. In the more academic (A&P for example) it takes more work. Occasionally it boils down to "you will see this on your national certification exam". In any case "relevance" is crucial to keep the satisfaction level up.

Yes maybe some project that is not part of the curriculm but some extra credit so they have more freedom

Brian, are you suggesting a selection of elective courses within a program? What do you mean by "a line in the sand"?

You have to admit, sometimes a curriculum is preset so the students don't really get a "choice option" I think that there should be "a line in the sand" drawn to allow these students to make their own choices in these classes so they can kind of tailor their own future in learning.

I agree, you know you have them when they stay after class to ask even more questions.

John,

Yes, it is all about choices...! That way the hunger to learn stimulates the desire to learn.

Rock On,
Chuck
