Retain Students
We speak of retaining as if we could do more than motivate the unmotivated, incourage the discouraged, instruct the unknowing and guide the academically lost. We are teachers and that is what we do - help keep our students hooked on knowledge. Lest we forget our passion.
school can be a very intense place for some people so you have to sucure thier state of mind. small bit of incoragement go a long way and sharing personal stories with sudents will show them its ok to not know something.
I try to connect on a personal as well as job related level. I give personal "on the job" stories and past experiences to draw in my student and let them be assured that it is more than paperwork and graded tasks in the field. I feel if I can do this I feel it gives a motivation and drive to do well in class...
I try to connect with the students on a personal level. I let them know that I truly understand what they are fighting against, not just saying it. I am a single mother, working full-time, and attending school full-time. I know the struggles they are going through and can relate.
