retention

What ways can we help with our retention rates if we don't understand what the students problems are? If they are attending regularly but then all of a sudden just stop attending for no apparent reason?

Kristie, how effective has teh Facebook page been¿ Do students use it to connect with you¿ Are there concerns about privacy¿

Hi DeAnn. I work in the Student Services department. I think this will always happen. You will always have a student who just disappears and won't return anyones calls/emails.

I think you need to try and create a bond with the students in Orientation. I go up and talk about my department and what we do. I tell them to please keep in contact with us. I tell them that no matter what issues might arise, to call me and we will see if it's something we can work out. I have also created a "Student Services" Facebook page and students usually feel comfortable sending me messages on there.

Hope this helps!

I have a student just like that right now. This person tried to take three courses to keep the AOS degree and only showed up once for one class and then just stopped all together on the other two. All three instructors have called and emailed with no response. We don't think they are in danger but the last time I spoke to this one they said " I'll be in tomorrow" and never showed.

If you haven't built a foundation of support, it will be very difficult to have a positive outcome when they suddenly stop attending.
