You are correct. Retention is the responsiblility of all parties, starting with admissions and the assestment of whether a particular student has the aptitude to be in that particular program. Perhahs the student is better suited for something else. Instructors have the duty to teach and encourage and to develope strengths in to greater strengths and strengthen weaknesses. Last but not least, the student must be assisted in clearly understanding that their role in this team effort is for them to apply themselves, study, learn and retain the information before them. All parties working in harmony can help the team improve student retention.

Retention responsibilty is difficult to place..however I feel if all parties work in harmony to develop, communicate and resolve the retention issues or to improve retention it will not place heavy burdens upon anyone. Taking this course is helping me to begin to understand how I can become more active in maintaining high retention rates among the students that passes through my course.

Yes, I think this is true and I do see it. Everyone has a breaking point, including the instructors.

I too struggle with this. In combination with the lowering of academic expectations of the nursing student and the necessity of having acceptable NCLEX exam scores, faculty will be responsible for the failure of either retention or unsuccessful accreditation.
