stress

i believe between the instructors and councilors most students have avenues in which to deal with stress I think having an open door policy where a student can come in and discuss most anything is a benefit to the student I also believe that most students are capable of making the right decision once they talk it out

Some of these students are going through their first relationship and its really a brain washing experience for them.

Many instructors are willing to help a student deal with the originators of stress within their lives, but some are not. I, for one, am a firm believer in the thought process that since I received help from others while I was in school I owe the students of today the same type of personal attention.

And, often, what the students talk about or stress about seems, at first blush, to have nothing to do with academic issues. Stress from any direction affects the entire human organism - let the students talk about ANY issues they have... without judging and without prejudice. The feeling of being accepted, no matter what, goes far to ease stress overall.

I totally agree that stress can effect student's ability to learn. It is up to an instructor to become involved in his or her student's learning. sometimes you have to ask questions.

I couldn't agree more. There should be a team in place and ready to help in any way.

More than knowing their names, I suggest that instructors and counselors should meet routinely to review students.

I belive it would be a good ideal for the instructor to know the name of the councilors and when they are available for the students.

Joseph, I agree with you… It has been my experience that a student’s decisions to withdraw from school or outright failure are seldom straightforward processes. By understanding the complexity of emotional and psychological processes inherent in student life, counselors play a critical part in helping students make the connection between mental health and their ability to learn.

I feel that students need to talk to thier student council at leased every month so that the school can moniter or help if any problems arise.
