understanding stress

I agree that perceiving and understanding the students' stress levels and what triggers it is important to the levels of attrition.

Some students are under a great deal of stress. They may be juggling family life, work and school. School programs that support student needs help reduce stress. Listening to students and getting them to open up is also imperative.

Stress is something that we all have to deal with.Myself being a student and working my way through school i can understand what they are going through.I have a problem with the students that get everything paid for and don't work and still complain about everything but i do my best to help them.

I believe that students under stress are more likely to leave campus. the last thing we should do is add to that stress. I try to keep things in my class a little more casual than some. If I see a student expressing signs of stress, i often will pull then aside to see if there is any thing I can do to help the situation. At times all they want is someone to listen. If I can I will reccomend solutions od even refer them to someone on staff who can better help

I inform my students about my time in school and the challenges I faced in order to finish. I think it helps them see they are not alone.

our corses are very condensed so the students are under a lot of stress. So we try to make students feel at ease with a lot of support from staff plus tutoring.

Alot of times our students are under stress, but it is difficult to find out what is troubling them. Most times they don't want to talk.

I think our campus staff do a very good job of handiling the differant stress issues that come up for our students.among the things they do is to provide help with houseing, transportation and provide students with food if needed they also provide student couseling and touters.

Good point, Michael, but how do you get the intelligence needed to provide help on a timely basis? Is there a formal system in place to get the information to the right people at the right time?

Absolutely. If we don't understand what they are up against and what the student experience is like for them, We can't effectively manage the levels of attrition.
