stress as a motivator
I have many students who get stressed out when
they are preparing for there final and practical
exams which occur every six weeks.Even some of our top students at times seem to panic with the
stress and pressure that is self inflicted. By
guiding the students repeatedly practicing there
exam they seem much more at ease. there is still
some pressure to do well because of the weight
the exam has on there overall grade point average
but the time alotted reduces the stress.
Most of our students do very well and even those not at the top of the class do surprisingly well.
This satisfaction knowing they can perform under
pressure with an instructor watching over them
becomes very satifying and encourages the student
to continue. And builds self confidence, knowing
they can do it under difficult circumstances.
One of the things i notice with our students is that they understand that our line of work comes with stress. The good thing is they take pride in doing the repair and doing it right, thats what motivates our students.
Some stress seems to motivate as long as it’s not excessive. The problem is what is considered excessive. I had a very good student in one of my classes. On the last day of class he went to lunch and never returned to take his final test. I found out from a student who knew him that before each test he would stress over the possibility of failing and for his final test he stressed so badly he went home. The stress from test taking was more than he could handle. Some people are afraid to speak out in public and will stress over just the thought of it while others seem to work better with some.
when you can stand over a student and he or she can still do what you asked i would say we did are job well
u r so correct as it is very difficult performing any task when there is a supervisor type watching over everything you do i can relate to that first hand
I have found under most conditions that stress is a good motivator as long as it does not go to an extreme. Pushing a student to perform at their highest level is in itself stressful as some have never been pushed and or do not know what their limit is. I feel during this process that it is the instuctors responsibility to monitor and intervene if needed, if outside influences appear, then the instructor should do all that he can to assist and get the student back on track.
