students and stress
I believe one of the big issues that we deal with in our courses is the generation of students, I believ we are on generation Z now. A lot of younger people have not had the opportunities to be held accountable or possibly never had responsibilities. This plays heavily into attrition, not used to dealing with problems or stress, some students are willing to take the easy road and leave. This is were the importance of keeping an open ear or knowing who to direct the student to if the problem gets persists
What does mean for you? How does this lack of preparation impact your job?
Some of the younger students are now in the position that they are not use to and have not been preped by parents to handle responsibilities.
I agree with both Art and Steve, this generation of students have had it easy. It is up to us the Instructors to hold them accountable for their actions. The students should learn the discpline of responsibilty and the rewards that come with it. Example ,if they study before a test it would be less stressful because they know the material and are less likely to fail.
I agree with you, Art. This generation of students has never been held accountable for their actions. They have always been given the easy path, and never had to push through difficult times. When confronted with even the smallest of life's challenges, they are apt to simply give up. I am finding more and more that the current generation of students cannot deal with stress, because they have never had to. This is leading to an ever increasing failure and drop-out rate.
As we understand the generations we learn that all students learn at different pace. as you have stated they are not use to dealing with problems and stress, it is our job to help in anyway possible.
