School-Based Stressors
Academic Erosion Stress
How I help with students that enter the program and feel stress due to feel lost, I tried to talk with them and see what is really bothering them and what advice I can give them to resolve the solution.
Students moods almost always show on their faces. Anytime I've got a student who looks to be feeling down, I personally make an effort to ask them if their doing alright and take some time to talk about it. "Can I help?" is a powerful question; even if I can't, the act of offer a suggestion or just listening can help to at least build a bond with a student; even if I can't actually reduce the stress directly, we all like to know others' have our back, right?
Through the semester I try to get a feel for each student’s typical behavior and attitude; if I see a noticeable change, I try to make the time to ask “how are things going?†which may or may not get the student to open-up a little and let me know what’s going on. I sometimes let them know that ‘talking-out†a problem can sometimes lead to an answer or at least to a critical assessment as to how bad their problem really is!
Most of the time stress can show physicaly in many ways. If you observe the reactions of your students to the class activities you will be able to detect those that are affected by stress
How do you know which students are feeling stressed?
