Megan, of course each situation will be different but simple acts of support and encouragement go a long way to demonstrating commitment.

As a school we match or exceed an individual's commitment to completing the program, though communicating this commitment to a student under stress can be challenging. What are clear ways this can be shown?

I think everyone in the college is responsible for identification and implementation of improvements. As instructors, when a problem is identified we need to find a solution, and not just pass the buck by sending the student off to another person. With that being said, instructors need to be oriented well to the institution when they start, so they know what kind of resources are available to them and the students.

I agree. We need to consistently work with students to ensure they remain committed. One way of doing this is to remidn the student why they started and what they hoped to accomplish.

Need more specifics, Bruce. How are these things going to happen? Who's responsible for identification and implementation of improvements?

School commitment starts at registration and continues all the way there school. As a school we should never stop looking for ways to have our students succede. Always look for ways to better there time on campus and resolve any issues they have in the class room or helping with outside issues.

Yes,it is a partnership between the school and the student. However, each day, as educators, we have the power to either encourage or discourage with our words and actions.

I believe the school definitely has to make a commitment to the student, however it still works both ways. The student must also want to commit to learning the material and especially dealing with online learning, many students have more personal issues that stand in the way of their commitment even though we try and do all we can to keep the student from dropping the class. Sometimes the student just gives up and would like to retake the course. Either way, we stand strong in our commitment in making sure we have done all we can to help the student complete the course without taking it over.

Definitely. The school must be fully committed to this cause to make its institution successful.

It comes from all parts or departments in the school and can drastically affect student success.

When we apply the priciples set before us we can help them to overcome.

I agree that commitment is really a package deal. It comes from all parts or departments in the school and can drastically affect student success.
