Stress
What is your best practice to help a student to deal with stress?
offer them encouragement, let them know all the things they are doing right, emphasise the positive.stress passes,it will end.
I try to reinforce with balance with my students. Our daily lives incorporate not only school, but also work and family. It is important to devote a certain amount of attention to all aspects of our day. I have encouraged students to map out their days and figure out where school fits into the equation. For some, evenings are the best time to devote to school. For others, it may be early morning. The point is once you identify when school can be a priority in your day, it doesn't seem as stressful. I also encourage my students to take time for themselves. If we don't take time for us, the stress builds up and up and eventually, it will be too much to handle. I find when students don't think about time for just themselves, school is the first thing to suffer.
As an advisor in an online school; its very hard to get a sense of what kind of stress a student may be under. If you are able to get ahold on them, it depends on the repose you may have with them. A gentle ear and a good listener is all that is needed sometimes to help. You can’t tell them what to do, but you can suggest that one way of cooping is to do something good for yourself. Being engaged in classes is one positive thing to have them look at to escape it for at least for awhile. Each student is different and finding the hook that gets their attention is key
There are many. I ask if it really is something that can go out of control? Can they control the situation and if so, what can we do to control / identify it. Many students just work and go to school. (Time management) I make sure when i see them stressed that they are - making "me time" as in working out, hobbies, spending time with families and such. School is tough enough but it CAN be tackled and the student CAN win!
