Well said. Being a former student myself I remember when I had to work full time, go to school full time, and still have a life outside of school. That experience helps me relate to my students and show them that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

I teach and I attend school so I understand the overload and the stress that can arise. I sometimes can almost tell whether or not a student is stressed do to my class sizes being rather small, but they are comfortable with me approaching them an seeing what is stressing them.

I always try to consider what else is going on with a student’s life when they come to me with their struggles and challenges are class.

Stress is an emotion as well as physical condition. If a student starts to miss too many classes do to illness I try to see if there was some stressful situation prior to these absences.

I agree stress is a big factor in a student and teacher's overall performance. If a student is not coping with stress well it makes our job much more difficult and can really have an impact on our effectiveness as a teacher. Everyone needs good coping skills just as we need a certain amount of healthy stress to motivate us. Perception is everything.
