I do agree with how much stress can effect our students. I teach a new phase of students every 3 weeks so the first day of each phase I really make sure it is a fun and relaxing day for them so I don't loose them due to stress

Richard , how do you select the student to share an how their day is going? Do you often get resistance from reluctant students?
"All hands on deck"! We as an institution. The facility is Clean and refreshing, the greeting of students by staff and instructors with a hand shake and smile of reassurance that it will be a pleasant learning environment. It is everyone from the top to the custodian that can make this great experience for a student. Let a student a day for two or three minute tell you and the class about his or her day, sometime they want to get it out, and it can be quite funny or interesting.

Making a fun classroom environment is important. If the student is not enjoying the class, then he won't want to come. I have found that if a student is not enjoying the class, i can sometimes rely on other students to help him out. Other students who are gong through the same things can do a world of good to make a classroom environment stress free. Working with people who share the students stressors (such as putting military students together, or students who have children together in a work group) can also make things more enjoyable. They not only have a shared interest in suceeding in the class, but they have similar challenges to doing so.
I Make my classroom environment fun ,open and stress free. I want students to feel good about coming to school and look forward to going to my class.
I agree with you Charles. If we can make it comfortable when we offer them our school then it should continue. We need to prove to them this is a friendly environment and not a stressful hostile one.
