helping students cope with stress
how to help students cope with stress.
I have found that having a good course structure helps give my students the feeling of more control. Also knowing that I am there to support them at all times gets them through some rough patches.
Kathryn:
I absolutely agree with you. It is often difficult to engage with students and his or her stress related issues during lecture hours while we teach. Often students shy away from discussing what and why stress has taken over their lives. Sometimes students are too embarrassed and do not want to directly speak to us instructors as they are with us daily. As you me mentioned, more departments need to walk the walk to close the gaps we often experience in education = retention = higher success.
I believe that being an instructor we wear many hats. And helping to find ways to help our students cope with the stress of life can be a vital bit of information. There are many students that need direction in more than just academics.
I don't understand your entry, Constantina. Please provide more information.
